Red Bull Metropolis Brings Competition to Cities: Skylines
Red Bull, the energy drink most associated with gamers, has announced a new competitive event premiering in mid-August. Known as Red Bull Metropolis, this competition will bring the beloved city-building game Cities: Skylines into the competitive world.
Created with the help of Paradox Interactive and the Cities: Skylines community, Red Bull Metropolis is a six-hour tournament that will pit Biffa Plays Indie Games, Quill18, RTGame, and The Spiffing Brit against each other in a variety of challenges. Whether it’s reducing a city’s traffic by building an effective bike network or saving a city from an impending meteor strike, they’ll have 30 minutes per challenge to show off their city planning skills. They’ll be judged based on a variety of in-game factors, as well as creativity, integration, and realism. City Planner Plays will also be making an appearance, as he shows how to best complete each map from an actual city planner’s perspective after each challenge. After five challenges, the two top scoring players will compete in a final challenge to determine the Red Bull Metropolis Champion.
Originally releasing back in 2015, Cities: Skylines offers a modern take on the classic city builder genre. Since its release, it has gotten a wide variety of expansion packs, which cover a wide range of features such as in-game weather, natural disasters, and eco-friendly towns. It isn’t the first low-key game to become part of a competition, but Paradox is happy to bring it to the competitive field. “We are always looking for new ways that players can engage with Cities: Skylines, and this creative partnership with Red Bull is a wonderful way to bring competition to everyone’s favorite city builder,” said Paradox CEO Ebba Ljungerud.
